Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters is an upcoming 2014 American fantasy adventure film directed by Thor Freudenthal, with a screenplay by Chris Colfer, J. K. Rowling, and Darren Lemke. It is based on the third book in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series for young readers entitled "Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters" (2010). The film stars Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Abel , Brandon T. Smith , Douglas Smith , Pierce Brosnan The movie will be set in New York City during modern times but will feature mythical creatures like Cyclopes and Gorgons living alongside humans in secret while facing impending war between monsters, centaurs and humans. The ancient god Hades (resurrected) with his minions, including Cyclopes, Gorgons, Furies, Stymphalian beasts and water nymphs will be the main antagonists. Percy Jackson must discover the truth behind his missing father or he will be defeated by his enemies. Chris Columbus is attached to direct the film adaptation of "The Son of Neptune" in March 2011, with Troy Nixey producing via his production company Nixey Films. The film was later announced to have been canceled due to a change in plans from Warner Bros., which was later announced to have been re-scheduled for May 18, 2013. On January 10, 2011, it was announced that the film rights to the second book, "The Son of Neptune", had been dropped by Warner Bros., but Brandon T. Jackson would still have a part in the movie because of his attachment to the project. The producers are still interested in making the film, however. On October 21, 2012, it was announced that Thor Freudenthal will direct "The Sea of Monsters" and Chris Columbus will return as producer and screenwriter.
